Modus better than people think

2006 Renault Modus Petrol Manual Hatchback by Jon Lynas • 24th October 2018
We bought a Modus for our kids to learn to drive. It's perfect for a learner - cheap to insure, excellent visibility, flat back end to make reversing easy also the gearing is low - so it is comfortable driving in 4th gear at 25 to 30 mph. Has been reliable - over 9 years of ownership. Several broken springs, new coil pack, new window motor but not much for 9 years. Only thing - changing a headlamp bulb is notoriously difficult - have done twice and takes about an hour and a half - a small quibble about the best car ever owned (driving for 40+ years).

2004 Renault Megane Diesel Manual Hatchback by Petey • 25th September 2018
Although a fairly basic spec model, (no electric mirrors or rear electric windows or fog lights), my first car after passing test and it was bought from a cousin as her first car. In the family for 8 years, easy to tax, (only £30), low insurance group essential for me as younger driver, and great MPG as I usually got close to 50 miles per gallon. Servicing was always cheap too and apart from one regulator for drivers electric window, (£35 from breakers yard), a new battery (£70), after incorrectly wired dash cam drained the original one which was 9 years old at the time a rear brake caliper, (£55 in readiness for the 3rd MOT I put it through), I would not consider this car expensive to maintain.
The 1.5 dci engine is not the most powerful but more than adequate for starter drivers especially as I seldom had more than 3 passengers travelling with me, mine has over 155,000 on the clock and ran as smoothly the day I sold it as when I first got it, testament to merit of good servicing and strong build. All in all, despite many forums often being really critical of this French brand for electrics etc my experience has been very positive. Many of my peers have purchased several makes of cars during the time I owned this car they have spent considerably more both running and maintaining them, in fact I was twice able to come to their aid when two different cars broke down in the winter cold snaps.
If you are not a fashionista and are looking for a car that is kind to your pocket then this has to be a contender.

Ive had the car for three years, and only selling after getting a customer work van. Very comfortable to drive, six speed, with cruise control and speed limiter for any longer my journeys. Parking sensors are handy.

2011 Renault Laguna Diesel Manual Estate by darius • 10th February 2018
Currently I own 8th Renault in my life. I had theses models: 25, Safrane, Clio, Megane, Laguna. Those were all very good cars. When some say that Renaults have problems with electronics I literally have no idea what they are talking about. I can tell you that Renault makes very reliable and beautiful cars. Car I own at the moment is a Renault Laguna Estate Initiale Paris. And its a beautiful one. Reliable, cheap to service and most importantly a Big pleasure to drive...

Went for a 2.0dci 175, the nissan engined Espace, and it has been a great car. Ultra reliable and I can get over 40mpg on a long run and around 34mpg around town. Loads of space and one of best cars on the road to drive - very quiet and refined on the road and a fantastic motorway mile muncher. Would recommend without hesitation.

I have owned my megane now for over ten years have over 160000 miles on the engine. main problem would be the electric windows but they can be easily fixed for about £50 a door. but I do change the oil every 9000 miles. this car as given me great serviced and don't know how I will replace it when the time comes

2003 Renault Megane Petrol Manual 6 speed Hatchback by Luke McCorry • 18th March 2015
One of the best cars I've ever owned. 90k miles with nothing more than a MAF sensor, electric window regulator and boot catch (besides regular servicing). I picked the best engine in my opinion, the 2.0 VVT petrol with 6 speed manual gearbox. Averages 34MPG, road tax is a bit steep at £265 pa. It's very quick, sits just above 1000rpm in sixth gear at 40mph. Mine has lots of extras, panoramic glass roof, full black heated leather, climate control and keyless start. Ride can be a bit crashy with the upgraded wheels but they do look much better than the standard ones. I've bought many cars since, but still have the Mégane and have never found anything quite good enough to replace it permanently.

We researched these for a while and bought the 2.0 dci 175bhp model as the engine is not made by Renault :) it's the Nissan/Renault m9r engine which is super reliable and economical , they are mostly aluminium and plastic so no rust to worry about and load of space ?

STAY AWAY FROM THESE CARS

2003 Renault Megane Diesel Manual Hatchback by pudding pop • 23rd November 2014
These cars are crap if i could have given it 0 stars i would have, electrics crap car locking and opening itself all the time, i need a key fob to start it and a different 1 to lock it, my driver side door fell of and after fixing the problem it is almost ready to fall of again, my injectors have went twice in two weeks, only thing good about these cars is the cheap tax and easy on fuel, if cars goes over 45 it will shake and rattle no point on taking 1 of these onto motorway anyone thinking of buying 1 of these keep your money in your pockets as you will have nothing but problems with it and i have researched the problems and i am told they are all the same, BUY AN AUDI
