I have owned a vw Passat for 2 years and have had nothing but trouble, handbrake motors, egr valve, abs sensor, none of which covered under warranty!

14 years old and the best runaround ive ever had. Tdi engine good and powerful. Would definitely recomend this car to anybody. For 14 year old it has the usual wear and tear but everything works . Better than any a3 in the country.

The best car I ever had, own it now 8 years, 1 breakdown due to a battery. I have used this car as a taxi and now have over 400,000 on it. A good guide on a car is to look what taxi men use, thats reliablity. Must also speak for the 06 2ltr model, have 200,000 on it, injectors replaced by vw, rear calipers & clutch kit replaced by myself. serviced every 10,000. good driving car

The B5 facelift Passats are 100 times the car the pre-facelift B5's are. I know because I have had both! I would buy a facelift B5 (01-05) in a heartbeat again. I wouldn't **** on a pre-facelift to be honest. They are a bung of dung compared to the facelifts. Facelift (01-05) 4.5/4.8 star out of 5. Pre facelift (96/97-2000) 3.0 out of 5.

This is a great wee car. Built like a Golf, easy to run and still looks good after 12 years. Good value for money.

Smashes all the boxes! Over 300 miles to £40 of diesel. Remap to 130BHP and even easier on diesel now. Had it over 6 months and haven't fitted a lightbulb to it! It needs rear axle bushes but the car is 15 and when you buy an older car expect to replace parts! Have to laugh at these people buying a 10+ years car and gurning and whinging about replacing bushes, steering arms etc. BEST CAR IVE EVER OWNED WITHOUT A DOUBT! While I do agree that newer VW's, Audis etc are definately not as good or well put together as the older ones. Then again why is this? BECAUSE THE MAJORITY OF PARTS AND ASSEMBLY ISN'T GERMAN!!!

Great Car to own. Never let me down once and very economical.8 years old but drives like a new car. Would recommend it to anyone. A real workhorse and a pleasure to drive.

I Bought a 2008 2.0 sport Jetta with 52,000 on the clock in March 2013. It was the best decision I've ever made.
In the past I've had Renaults, Vauxhalls and Peugeots but as soon as I sat in the Jetta it was in a different class to the others.

It's a great car to drive, very sturdy and well built as all VW's are and it has more than enough power for overtaking as well as motorway cruising at leisure.

Running costs are very good for a big engine like this, takin £65 to fill it to the throat and then getting 530-550 miles to the tank, driving with manners.

Never have had any issues with the car, it has never missed a beat and the service intervals are usually every 20k miles although i'll do mine annually to keep her smooth.

Don't think I'll ever go back to previous brands in the future, once you have driven a solid car like this then an Insignia feels like a bag of bottles.

Have had the 06 Jetta for over 5 years now. Was 15k miles on her then and there are 101k on her now and shes never given me a bit of bother - bar the brake management system failing within 50k.

Apparently this was a common fault in the various VW family different cars.
VW paid 100% parts 50% labour so I wasnt too annoyed.

Couple of minor things going wrong with her now, EGR valve is going to need replaced and ill have to get a new set of shocks for the suspension but nothing you wouldnt expect for the miles shes done.

Very sturdy, safe car - the doors weigh a tonne!

She doesnt have anywhere near the toys of a Passat - they are more like VW Golf's only with a rear end!

The only car I've ever owned that drives as solid as a good BMW.
The comfort is incredible and the mpg is amazing. It just drives forever.
One of the most reliable cars on the road still today.
A real shame the new model VW Passat has so many faults. This older model had none.
Best family car we've had. We paid over book price for a good one and it never let us down.

Volkswagen payed the dealer £4000 on warranty issues.

3 New Clutches + Fly wheels
1 New Ignition Lock
1 New Complete Injector Set
Fuel Door repaired
1 New Headlight Control Unit

I spent £800 on suspension parts and fitting, to get through the first MOT.

I put 131,000 miles, on it, but it broke my heart.

Own a 2008 Passat 1.9 Diesel. We do big mileage and this car is fantastic.
Very roomy and comfortable. Very economical averaging 50 - 53 MPG.
I cannot speak highly enough of this car. It has 145,000 miles on the clock. Fly wheel was replaced 15,000 miles ago but every car needs maintenance from time to time.
I had a number of Audi A4's before this car and I would rate the Passat much higher for reliability, comfort and space.

I bought an 05 BORA when it was four years old. I have driven it over 50,000 miles now and would buy another but VW stopped making them in 05! Reliable, excellent finish, 50mpg. Good car!

I have just bought another golf match and its the nicest car I've driven. Its got lots of extras. Very easy to drive and very economical. I wouldnt buy anything else. Great.

I have had a 1.9 Jetta for 3 years now and it has never given any trouble, unlike my mate with the 2.0 Jetta. Comfortable, reliable and easy to run.

absolutely terrible car hav owned this car 2 years and had nothing but problems . electronic handbrakes jams on n doesn't release . v sore on shocks after 111000 miles will soon be going for her third clutch+flywheel kit . parking censors jam on . sold mine last week and have never been happier
